Spaceship Crew - BlueLadyAces The background/concept for this project is that a small crew have become the owners of a pretty cruddy light freighter after manning it during an evacuation from a failing space station. The roles of the cast are drawn from a rough list of roles that would need to be filled if the ship is to do freelance shipping jobs successfully. As it is only a (relatively) small vessel, some people are doubling up on duties. (Thus, step one of the process, aside from the one or two characters that sparked the idea, was to determine what these roles were.) Most likely this project will primarily be realized as illustrated fiction and free-standing images of the crew.

Captain Zhanis

Female, short-ish, round-and-curvy. Also negotiates the crew's contracts. Zhanis's species, the Yalishi, were genetically engineered as living works of art in the early days of such activities. They are long since emancipated, having the same rights as any "natural" species in known space. Based on the Imperial Guardian Lions (B), with an influence from Chow Chows (A); anthropomorphic. Note the slightly pointed nose of the statue, though face may otherwise be a bit more Chow-like. Big on the floofy-curly mane and tail of the statues, and has similar claws on the (plantigrade) hind feet. Possibly also floofy around the ankles. Going for a mother-goddess (D) kind of look, without quite so extreme a figure; many of the women in Mika's Big Girl... video (C) seem to be a decent jumping-off point there.

Engineer Kirrik

Male Trygg, natural tree-dwelling species from very dense jungle environment; two feet long plus another two feet-ish of prehensile tail, ambidextrous hexapods. Their native language is kind of chittering, and they are marsupial with the males of a tribe carrying the young after birth. Males are significantly outnumbered by females, and visibly smaller. Generally similar in build (A) and flexibility (B) to ferrets, with all six feet/hands working perfectly fine as graspers, similar to a monkey's forelimbs (C). In addition, they have a gecko-like ability to climb due to the surfacing on their pawpads (D). Not pictured, Trygg have consciously controlled biolumescence on the face and/or whiskers and possibly the hands, and the body is covered in long, silky-sleek fur that protects them squeezing through tight spaces.

Loadmaster Gorrak

Also serves as the ship's security officer. Male Khamorloagh, a large, muscular species most resembling an anthropomorphic pangolin. In their native environment they use their large claws to dig out homes inside the ridiculously huge dense-"wooded" mushroom/tree plants of their planet for shelter. Quite possibly paint their scales all kinds of bright colors, in an individual pattern based on family etc, sort of like a coat of arms. Front of body covered in bear-like fur. Main note about his build is that I'm going for the sort of muscular that looks like it's come about from heavy work; arms or chest shouldn't look disproportionate from the other.

Comm specialist Kelley

Member of a constructed species that legally is still the property of their creators, designed for colonizing hostile environments; codename Project Arcadia: Nereid Strain. Female, starts out doubling as the ship's medic. This species can communicate soundlessly through changing the colors and patterns of their skin under shortish, flat, transluscent fur - like a more extreme version of some octopi. Strong senses, especially smell and hearing. This particular individual suffers from a defect that makes it impossible for her to parse her species' wordless communication (color blindness of some sort). Species is sleek and bendy, not terribly large, quite possibly some unholy cross between ferret and jackal (B), with especially ears towards the more stylized interpretation of the species (A). The sleekness may to some extent also resemble sighthounds' distinctive build (C).

Jack-of-most-trades Krinnishka

Kareesk - a hermaphroditic, marsupial, raptor-like alien species. These critters' native communication sounds like a mix of corvid and parrot chatter, and their mannerisms can resemble corvids, as well, e.g. sidestepping this way and that and headtilting when speaking with someone, and using their mouth as a "third hand". This individual has two distinct personalities, one of which serves primarily as med tech, while the other mostly assists the engineer - the personalities refer to one another as "he"/"she" and there's little love lost between them. The base of the character's build is more or less raptor-like (C), with minor variations to allow for alternating between a quadrupedal, a more typical "horizontal" raptor stance, or a more vertical stance. Probably longer arms with more handlike talons. The tail is more flexible, more resembling the body of a python (A), and there may be some hints of corvid not only in their mannerisms but also in their appearance (B).

Pilot Niemel

Male Minohia, a winged alien species. Not capable of much more than gliding; wings have reformed to have more in the way of grasping capabilities, losing some of their lift in the process. Quite possibly four-eyed for a wider field of vision.

Medic Matthew

Generic human character. Ex-military. Notable for joining the crew later than the lot above.
